Geriatrics

Geriatrics is the branch of medicine that focuses on the health and care of older adults, typically those aged 65 and above. As populations age worldwide, geriatrics has become increasingly important in addressing the unique healthcare needs and challenges faced by older individuals.

One of the key aspects of geriatrics is the recognition that aging is accompanied by physiological changes that can affect multiple organ systems. These changes can lead to an increased risk of chronic diseases, functional decline, cognitive impairment, and frailty. Geriatricians are trained to understand these age-related changes and to provide comprehensive, multidisciplinary care that addresses the complex medical, social, and psychological needs of older adults.
